Remembering the Unknown Warrior: Insights from James Crawford

At the Lodge of Research No. 2429 meeting on 26 January 2026, James Crawford delivered an engaging and thought‑provoking lecture titled “The Story of The Unknown Warrior.”

James outlined the origins of this national memorial, created after the Great War to honour the many British and Commonwealth servicemen with no known grave. He explained how one unidentified soldier was selected for reinterment in Westminster Abbey, providing a focal point of remembrance for families who could not bury their loved ones.

A man wearing a formal black suit with a light blue sash and several medals pinned to his jacket, smiling in front of a portrait in a ceremonial setting.

The lecture highlighted the remarkable planning and symbolism involved in an account filled with more intrigue and depth than many works of fiction.

The Lodge extends its sincere thanks to James Crawford for an informative and memorable presentation.
